‘Alfie’s Story’ is aimed at children up to 7-8 years, and is a wonderful book for bedtime story reading with Mum, Dad or the grandparents, or as a help in early learning. It tells the story of Alfie, ‘a little black cat who once was lost but one day found a new home and new friends’. Author Sue Wilkins based the story on her own experience of a small stray black cat who found her way into her heart, and came to join Sue’s other pet cats, Anna and Billy.
Liz Furness, who did the illustrations, has a fine eye for detail and for giving humour to her pictures. Not only has she brought Alfie and the other characters to life, but Liz has also created a cheeky little mouse, who hides in the pictures, waiting to be spotted by the children.
The little mouse will be the subject of a new book, due out next year. But at the moment the mouse has no name, so Sue and Liz have organised a competition to ‘Name That Mouse’. Open to children, the winner will have their own name printed in the new book and will receive the very first copy off the printing press! Details of how to enter are contained in every copy of Alfie’s Story.
The book has been very well received and sold several hundred copies within a week of being published. Sue has big plans to bring it to as many children as she can. Watch Out for that Cat!
